London, United Kingdom – The spark and glam of Ann Ong’s handcrafted creations captivated the United Kingdom market as she launched the collection in London on 9 September 2016. The exclusive event, attended by Philippine Embassy London Officials, buyers, fashion bloggers and accessory enthusiasts, was held at Romulo Café in Kensington High Street.
Philippine Ambassador to the UK Evan Garcia was also a guest at the event. He said that it is one of his pleasant duties to promote the culture and traditions of our homeland. He said: “We are deeply indebted to Ann for taking the trouble to come here to the United Kingdom in order to share her beautiful creations with us.”
“Although there is almost a quarter of a million Filipinos and of British-Filipino descent in this country, we still do need to make our British friends have a better appreciation of Filipino arts and culture. It’s not just economics, it’s not just politics, it’s also arts and culture that brings us together,” Ambassador Garcia added.
Ann Ong is an award-winning jewellery designer known for her one-of-a-kind creations. Her metal bracelets, neckpieces and evening clutches draw inspiration from nature and exude opulence and high fashion.
She recently did a show in New York and Paris before coming to the United Kingdom to launch her collection in the capital. Armed with three Katha Awards or the hallmark of Philippine product design excellence and innovation, strong endorsement from the Centre for International Trade Expositions and Mission (CITEM), and support from the Philippine Trade and Investment Centre London, Ms Ong showed-off her jewellery pieces with pride and excitement.
Ann Ong said that she gets her drive from promoting the Philippines and proving that Filipino designers can be in the global market. “The mission and vision of Ann Ong is to promote Filipino artistry. It is not just for my brand, but really by creating jobs for Filipino artisans – to improve their lives,” she said.
The Philippine Trade and Investment Centre London (PTIC London) supported and promoted the launch. “We at the Philippines Trade and Investment Centre London are happy to support and promote a Philippine SME social enterprise to go global. Ann Ong London brings forth world-class calibre of Filipino designers and talents through her works,” said Kitchie Umali, Commercial Attaché and PTIC London Head.
